January 2009 Windy Boats shortlisted for three major awards
Three models from leading Scandinavian boatbuilder, Windy Boats, have been shortlisted for the 2009 Motor Boat of the Year Awards and European Powerboat of the Year Award. The winners will be announced in January.
Nominated for the 2009 Motor Boat of the Year Awards are the Windy 48 Triton in the ‘Best Sportscruiser above 45ft’ category, and the Oceancraft 760 in ‘Best RIBs and Sportsboats.’ Both were selected by a judging panel made up from the editorial test teams of Motor Boats and Yachting, Motor Boats Monthly and Custom Yachting. The awards recognise and celebrate great design, superb performance and innovation in production motor boats. The winners will be announced during the London International Boat Show (9-18 January) at a special ceremony to be held at The Waldorf Hotel, London, on Monday 12 January.
The Windy Chinook 44 luxury sports cruiser has been shortlisted for ‘European Powerboat of the Year’ in the category up to 50ft. Sponsored by Boote magazine, and presented at the Düsseldorf Boat Show ( 17-25 January), these awards recognise the best new boats launched over the past 12 months in four size categories and are selected by an editorial panel from seven leading European powerboat magazines.
Commenting on the award nominations, Windy Boats’ President and CEO Knut Heiberg-Andersen said: “We are delighted to be nominated for these three major awards, which recognise Windy’s excellence across the boating spectrum – from open sports boats to hardtop luxury cruisers. Windy has an international reputation for innovation and craftsmanship and these nominations affirm our position as one of the world’s highest-quality production boatbuilders.”
Launched in 2008, the Windy Chinook 44 hardtop sports cruiser is the only boat of its size to offer three double cabins. Add a top speed of 38 knots and truly rakish good looks, and you have the perfect family boat for those who are not willing to sacrifice style and performance for space and comfort.
The new Windy 48 Triton is a luxury cruiser which combines a timeless design with a deep V-hull and powerful Volvo engines to give an exciting and comfortable ride at high speeds. Heralding the arrival of a new generation of leaner, greener Windy models, both the Triton and the Chinook have vacuum injection moulded hulls, to make them lighter and more fuel efficient, and employ steamed ash and sustainably sourced light oak in place of teak and tropical hardwood.
The Oceancraft 760 is one of three stylish, high quality, open sports boats which make up the Windy Oceancraft range. W th its deep-V hull and high-performance engine it delivers sporty handling and superb sea-going capabilities, and a safe and enjoyable ride under all conditions.
The Windy 48 Triton and 44 Chinook and can be seen on the Windy stand (S 21) alongside the 25 Mirage, 28 Ghibli, 33 Scirocco and 35 Khamsin at the London International Boat Show 2009. Windy will also be showing the 48 Triton on stand 5 E 20 at the Düsseldorf Boat Show 2009, alongside the 32 Grand Tornado.
